Esperance Anglican Community School (EACS) is offering affordable boarding for regional families following the WA Government’s abolition of the Royalties for Regions subsidy that had been helping regional families with education costs since 2008.
By 2021, it is thought that regional families will have to pay an extra $628 a year per child due to the Government’s decision.
The Royalties for Regions program was supposed to generate population growth in regional Western Australia. However, despite this, population has declined in some communities.
Esperance received a $25 million investment, which included $20 million for the redevelopment of the town’s foreshore, which coincided with a population growth of just 363 people, well below the state average.
For those in rural areas, boarding may not be a choice, but a necessity, to avoid long commutes and provide children with the opportunity and stability they feel they deserve and will benefit from.
At Esperance Anglican Community School, we are dedicated to helping our students flourish, developing people of character with a strong sense of identity and a passion for learning who will become great contributors to the region and beyond. As part of this mission, and in a bid to ease the burden on families while still providing their children with the opportunity to realise their full potential and become lifelong learners, our new boarding option for regional families of $21,000 per annum includes all-inclusive boarding and tuition fee.
